Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Using these narratives as an expectation-setting framework at the outset of a training, a trainer could now reasonably focus on three main goals: Addressing enough of the basics so that participants will understand the technical side of digital safety; To identify solutions and strategies to respond to current threats and risks.

In the worst-case scenario, this can result in:
• You lead a training that is rushed, or full of errors that increase the risk of your participants.
• An unrealistic standard for future trainings, wherein organizers or participants come to expect a pace and level of depth that is neither effective nor sufficient.
• You will increase your personal risk of burning out, which negatively affects both your personal life and your ability to be effective as a trainer.

This is why having a solid sense of your own limitations and accepting what you can and cannot do before you set and manage the expectations of participants and organizers is crucial.

  1. Technical training often has pre-requirements related to minimal knowledge in used technologies. Participants have to know how to do some basic things (e.g., set up a web server) and be able to perform required exercises. Basic theoretical knowledge in the related areas is usually a must.
  2. Another often mistake to expect that a trainer has to show everything, while participants do not need to do anything. Contrariwise, a participant came to the training to learn something new, and he/she has to try to practice as much as possible.
  3. A participant should also expect that a trainer may request to do some exercises as a part of the team. So, teamwork is also needed to finish the training and achieve the required results. This way, a participant may train not only technical skills but also organization and communication skills.

All learning outcomes in this course are equivalent to the face-to-face (F2F) version of this course.

Course Format

Big Tech does not require a four-year degree and our participants can earn industry recognized credentials by attending our 9-month 38126 STEM Academy.

We offer in-school classes at several locations in Memphis/Haywood where students learn coding during the school day, 4-5 days per week, as part of their class schedules. Currently, these courses include web development, JavaScript, and Python. These skills can positively impact subjects outside of computer science and pique interest in technology among involved students.

Both classroom and WEX experiences will be used to assist students in achieving their goals and gaining certifications.

Participants will spend most of their time after mental toughness in our computer labs and in the 38126 Innovation and Technology Center learning coding, tech skills and gaining competencies in their chosen certification process protocol.

Six (6) -week intensive hands-on summer/off session experience for the students. We will be covering a variety of offerings with a special focus each week to give students different perspectives on Computer Science based on grade level.

It is important to understand that this is not a self-paced class or an independent study. You will have assigned deadlines, and work must be submitted on time. You may not save up your assignments to complete in the last weeks or days of the semester. One critical part of this class is regular interaction with other students and with me, your instructor. Each assignment sequence must be completed on schedule – you can’t work ahead or get behind and be successful.
